Merchant Accounts Express Review

Merchant Accounts Express Review
By Anne Bristow

My husband and I started our dream business about five years ago. When we first met at a local coffee shop, it was our mutual love for antique Indian carvings that brought us together. Living in northern Florida, we're surrounded by a lot of individuals interested in a long removed Native America culture, and we're lucky enough to find ample supplies of Seminole artifacts in the area.

When our shop opened, we decided the best way to stay in business was to sell every piece for a relatively low price. But when inflation took over, we were losing our profits to overhead and barely had enough to keep the shop open. We had to raise our prices. Most customers didn't mind the higher prices, but they didn't carry that kind of cash around with them either. Checks bounce, so credit cards seemed the logical choice; however, we had no way of accepting them.

A customer brought his laptop into the shop to show us our options. I had no idea that it was so simple to find a company to handle your credit card processing. We chose Merchant Express and our business has been running fluently ever since.

Merchant Accounts Express was free to sign up with and even gave us a 30-day trial to see how the hardware and software combination would work for us. There were no set up fees at all, and our rates started at and haven't elevated much from 1.69% per transaction. Since our business was at an actual "location" and not aboard the World Wide Web, we went with the Point-Of-Sale terminal. You know -- those machines that you swipe your card through? It worked perfectly from the first use.

The terminal was from Lipman Nurit, a leading name in the industry, and only cost $99. Merchant Express also carries terminals from Hypercom and Verifone. They communicate using a standard phone line, which is a plus for us since we don't have broadband Internet in the area. With our cable connection, however, we are seriously thinking about setting up a website. When that time comes, we'll use Merchant Express to help us with the processing.

Merchant Express can handle processing via the Internet, using both Windows and Macintosh. They also provide access to Quickbooks, which works as a great time saver if you're running an internet business. Rounding out their processing features, Merchant Express also offers Wireless and Phone Processing terminals.

Although our business only accepts cash and credit cards, we could easily use Merchant Express to accept checks, mail orders, and Quickbooks if we wanted. It's all available for a low fee, and the support team and software professionals at Merchant Express are some of the best in the business. All major credit card types are accepted with the terminal: MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Discover, and debit cards.

Knowing nothing about the Internet when we started, my husband and I could have been easily lured in. But Merchant Account Express offers lower rates, free support, and will even walk you through the processing steps. Other companies providing similar services don't seem to be so helpful. And we've checked up on them all hence this Merchant Express review seems so biased...
