Authorize net Review
By Andrew Jones

Web businesses need a lot to succeed these days. No matter what you're planning on doing, your idea probably isn't original. I took this to heart two years ago when my wife and I decided to splurge our income tax check on eBay. It wasn't the smartest move ever taken by nearly-old fogies with a dream of early retirement, but it was a stance we took. We decided mutually that we weren't going to be pushed around by huge companies anymore. In fact, we were going to employ their tactics and do the pushing.

The wife and I took shifts on eBay and a few other auction sites. We would win $5,000 HD TVs for $900, and other expensive items like iPods and laptops for a fraction of their "in-store" cost. We turned right around and put them on our own website. Since we were still selling them for 40% cheaper than you'd get at the store, we were doing pretty well with a PayPal and Clickbank option. But when we wanted to move up to bigger items, we needed a way to handle credit cards and online checks.

It was my wife's idea to go to Authorize.net. They gave us a "Cybersource solution" as they call it. We could now handle payments of all sizes from credit cards and checks. The Authorize.net payment gateway allowed us to quickly handle electronic check payments, and our business began to grow exponentially. With their extensive (and free) knowledge base, we both learned how to apply their software to different sites. We had a separate website for TVs, cars, motor homes/RVs, small electronics, pet products, etc. And they all used Authorize.net as their mother-source for financial transactions.

Accurate records are kept with Authorize.net, which was a plus for us. We spent so much time learning about how to make money that we failed to realize how we would report it. We weren't about to spend our golden years in jail for tax evasion. But everything was simple and easy, and we had ample financial statements. We also received 100% fraud protection for only $5/month. There are a lot of people out there trying to defraud you, but we have them cornered with Authorize.net.

Authorize.net offers certified shopping carts, an auction integration feature, eCheck features, and so much more for only web merchants. They're also offering point-of-sale land-based terminals for on-site businesses, and even some great programs and features for resellers and developers. If you have a membership site, the recurring billing feature is probably a must for you. We pay a small monthly fee for their services and fraud protection, and a miniscule amount (around 2%) on credit card transactions.

Authorize.net allows us to do business with anyone from anywhere around the world using credit cards or eChecks. When it comes to payment solutions, they're the most comprehensive on the net. Their services can be a little more pricy than some others we've looked into, but everything they offer makes the deal seem sweet to us. We like their many features for auctions and membership. We may want to open our own sites someday, and Authorize.net's services will come in handy.
